Raccoon wood carved wall art - "Raccoon in Pine Tree"

Process:

This is an original relief wood carving that I designed and carved in my studio. I carved everything by hand with power tools from one piece of kiln dried Pine wood.

On this carving, most of the coloring and shading is burned on by hand. I then hand paint on my own custom mixed brown and white stains on the Raccoon and green on the pine needles.

The back of the carving is flat for wall mounting, and I carved a recessed flush mount hanger for a nail or screw head. I also hand engraved my signature and the year on the back of each carving.

Preservation:

This carving gets two coats of quality finish. First, the wood is sealed with shellac, and then I brush on a coat of exterior grade U.V. resistant Spar Urethane with a "satin" sheen. This wood carving is however intended for indoor use. If you want to place it outdoors, I recommend brushing on a few more coats of Spar Urethane/Varnish.
